Dirtier Dirtier

After a long and tiresome week of prep, an insane 16 hour day on set, and another week of suspense…it’s finally up.

Wither further ado…

So I was in a car accident today…

Tonight I’m writing from the comfort of my cousin’s apartment on Rosemont Boulevard, in Montreal. From here, I can finally reflect on the insanity of the last 2 days…though my head is still a big fuzzy from the car accident….

Did I mention the car accident? ( it’s all good, nobody got hurt )

I arrived Tuesday night, so that we could begin preparations for the video for ”Dirtier Dancing”, and on Wednesday morning we departed, ready for a full day of shopping for supplies and props. Unfortunately for us, we underestimated the difficulty of finding some of the key items we would need to pull off this video…

Example: Did you know water guns are virtually impossible to find during the winter? I can already hear you say ”Well that kind of makes sense…” but if that’s not bad enough, it’s also impossible to find fans! People use fans even if it’s not summer right?! (this will all make sense once the video is out… I hope.)

We’ll be filming a making-of on set, and taking tons of pictures of the band and crew (there’s going to be around 20 of us!). We’ve still got 2 days of preparations until the shoot, and a million more things to finish, so I’m going to get back to work, sleep, and wake up for another day of running around like mad…

The Other Side Part 1

The Other Side is not a specific place or thing.

It is an idea, an experience, and a perspective. It is the afterthought, the second glance, and the idea that nothing is ever necessarily what it seems. We see this around us everyday: from the newspaper headline of the newest political scandal; to the newest gadget we need like the air we breathe.

Whether it is at one of our shows, or in your room listening to our words as you fall asleep, our goal is to help you open your eyes and question the world around you. Let us take you, to the other side.

A new Chapter begins Dec. 2nd

Time…

Sometimes time slips by without us noticing, and sometimes it feels like everything is moving so slowly, that time has stopped altogether…

When I look back at the last 8 months, I wonder where all that time has gone…and then it hits me. Time hasn’t sped up or slowed down, it is my own perspective on the experiences I have lived and accumulated that make it seem like the last 8 months, some of the best months of my life, have just flown right past me…

This Friday, I will be putting out my second release, the ”Last Man” EP. It is the beginning of a new chapter for me, and I’m so excited to share it with you…

Stay tunned…there’s much more to come…

Album Progress Report!!

Already a month has passed since the recording process for my full length record ”Paper Moon” has started… WOW! It feels incredibly surreal to be away from my so called ”normal life” to be here in Toronto working on music every day. Being in-and-out of the studio while working with the incredible ”Ben-gineer” (my wonderful producer) has been the most amazing, eye-opening and learning experience of my life so far.

As of right now, we have 12 songs partially tracked, most with vocal references, and another possible 2 to re-arrange/record. The album will likely not have more than 10-12 songs, but there might be some additional tracks available as free give-aways for all my wonderful subscribers or as B-sides on the vinyl. (Did I say VINYL?!)

That being said, some of you might be wondering what this album will sound like, is it a continuation of the first EP or something completely different?! All I can say for now is that it is extremely eclectic, ranging from heavy synth-rock to hip-hop influenced alternative pop and everything in-between. Luckily for you, I’ll be making a short compilation video with clips from a few different songs that will be posted by the beginning of next week as well as to show what it’s like to be recording in the renown ”Kensington Sound” studio.

Now there’s still tons of lyric to write and work to be done, so until next time, I bid you adieu!

Fraud!!

This is the story of Bob.

For over a month and a half, Bob had been desperately seeking to sublet his apartment so that he wouldn’t have to pay the rent while away recording his new album. He wasn’t really getting anywhere, until one day he received an email from a nice british man, his name was Josh, who was ready to take the room! Bob was happy but wary of the possibility that this could all be a ruse! Josh then told Bob that his mother had now died, and even called Bob only to burst into tears and hang up! Bob sympathized for Josh and when he finally received the cheque for the deposit it seemed all was working out perfectly!

Until…

While at the bank, Bob insisted the tellers cheque the validity of the cheques, better safe than sorry as they say! But as the confirmation came in, it became clear: it was a fraud. This nice british man wasn’t so nice after all, he was trying to get Bob to deposit a cheques with a lot more than was due to him, only to be asked to transfer the money back to a third party.

Phew! It’s a good thing those guys at bank are so clever! Bob would have lost 2500$!

As you may have guessed at this point, Bob was me. I admit that I feel silly to not have figured it out earlier, but though I had suspicions that it was a ruse, I fell for their trap. It is unfortunate that there are such people in the world so dishonest as to do such things. And though I was fortunate to figure it out before it was too late, not everybody can be so lucky.

Be careful people!

On a totally different note, I will be leaving for Toronto on May 8th to begin recording my next record. I will be working with Producer Ben Pelchat over the next two months, and we will be posting tons of studio video blogs, as well as try out a possible new live streaming feature. So keep an eye out for some sneak peeks of the new songs all along the way!

To this, I leave you to ”The Edge”, one of the 6 songs we performed at the Live Lounge on April 15th. You can find the entire show on my youtube channel!

And then there was…

Snow, snow, and more snow.

It’s been a month since the last post, and I apologize.
Life seems to be rather keen on keeping me busy!

First things first.

Fragments of Fiction will be taken off of itunes/cdbaby and all other media sites. But don’t worry if you haven’t got a copy yet! It will be re-released under an independent label, making it available worldwide! More on that later!

The album is moving significantly well, I finished demoing drums, piano and vocals for ”Paper moon”. This is going to be a good one, I promise!
I will be entering Kensington Sound on May 9th in Toronto with Producer Ben Pelchat. With many musician guest appearances and collaborations, input from hit songwriters an incredibly versatile producer and of course myself, this is sure to be one crazy ride!

I also wanted to mention that Kaleigh Watt, the extremely talented singer which I am working with, recently got chosen for the back up vocals on one of KT Tundstall’s singles ”Glamour Puss” on her remix album! Congrats! I personally cannot wait to see the finished product!

I know that Christmas is coming, and to most, this means gifts!
I will be giving out more free tracks from the EP in the coming weeks, as well as additions to the website and more videos that I’m sure you guys will enjoy. So keep checking back!

And don’t forget to keep spreading the word on Cold’s Music Video!
