It’s About Time

After almost 2 years of work, the album is now in its finishing stages.

Only a few more sessions of final tracking before taking it into mixing.

I am so excited to show you the music I’ve poured my soul into making over the last 20 months.

Keep your ears peeled….the other side awaits.

A.

I need your help!

Hey guys,
I’m writing today to shed some light on the album I’ve been working on for the last 12 months…

Last summer I left my home in Ottawa, and vagabonded for 4 months in Toronto, working endless hours writing and recording what would become my most ambitious (and costly) project to date… by far.
I was extremely fortunate to have friends who offered their homes and couches to me, an essentially homeless, broke musician, on an crazy quest to make the best music he had ever made…

Well I can say that A LOT got done during those 4 months…over 14 songs were written for the album, 3 of which were fully completed, and released as the ”Last Man EP”.

The thing is, recording music is extremely expensive…and I’ve run out of money to pay my producer and the studio…let alone Mixing & Mastering! (And lets not forget printing, distribution, promotion, touring, etc…) And that’s where you come in.

I just recently launched a Rocket-Hub campaign… ”What the hell is that?!” you might be asking yourself…

Well, it’s a way for you to get involved in the process, to bring your voice to the table, to be part of this project!

To make it easier to understand, I put together a video to show you exactly what I’ve been up too, and how you can help!

I honestly can’t express how thankful I am of your support, and I can’t wait to show you these new songs…the culmination of everything I have ever done, in a tangible CD (or maybe Vinyl?!).

You can visit the pledge page here: http://www.rockethub.com/projects/5112-be-a-part-of-alexy-s-first-full-length-album

Once again, thank you, thank you, and thank you, for supporting me in doing what I love the most…music.

Love,

Alexy

So I was in a car accident today…

Tonight I’m writing from the comfort of my cousin’s apartment on Rosemont Boulevard, in Montreal. From here, I can finally reflect on the insanity of the last 2 days…though my head is still a big fuzzy from the car accident….

Did I mention the car accident? ( it’s all good, nobody got hurt )

I arrived Tuesday night, so that we could begin preparations for the video for ”Dirtier Dancing”, and on Wednesday morning we departed, ready for a full day of shopping for supplies and props. Unfortunately for us, we underestimated the difficulty of finding some of the key items we would need to pull off this video…

Example: Did you know water guns are virtually impossible to find during the winter? I can already hear you say ”Well that kind of makes sense…” but if that’s not bad enough, it’s also impossible to find fans! People use fans even if it’s not summer right?! (this will all make sense once the video is out… I hope.)

We’ll be filming a making-of on set, and taking tons of pictures of the band and crew (there’s going to be around 20 of us!). We’ve still got 2 days of preparations until the shoot, and a million more things to finish, so I’m going to get back to work, sleep, and wake up for another day of running around like mad…

Fraud!!

This is the story of Bob.

For over a month and a half, Bob had been desperately seeking to sublet his apartment so that he wouldn’t have to pay the rent while away recording his new album. He wasn’t really getting anywhere, until one day he received an email from a nice british man, his name was Josh, who was ready to take the room! Bob was happy but wary of the possibility that this could all be a ruse! Josh then told Bob that his mother had now died, and even called Bob only to burst into tears and hang up! Bob sympathized for Josh and when he finally received the cheque for the deposit it seemed all was working out perfectly!

Until…

While at the bank, Bob insisted the tellers cheque the validity of the cheques, better safe than sorry as they say! But as the confirmation came in, it became clear: it was a fraud. This nice british man wasn’t so nice after all, he was trying to get Bob to deposit a cheques with a lot more than was due to him, only to be asked to transfer the money back to a third party.

Phew! It’s a good thing those guys at bank are so clever! Bob would have lost 2500$!

As you may have guessed at this point, Bob was me. I admit that I feel silly to not have figured it out earlier, but though I had suspicions that it was a ruse, I fell for their trap. It is unfortunate that there are such people in the world so dishonest as to do such things. And though I was fortunate to figure it out before it was too late, not everybody can be so lucky.

Be careful people!

On a totally different note, I will be leaving for Toronto on May 8th to begin recording my next record. I will be working with Producer Ben Pelchat over the next two months, and we will be posting tons of studio video blogs, as well as try out a possible new live streaming feature. So keep an eye out for some sneak peeks of the new songs all along the way!

To this, I leave you to ”The Edge”, one of the 6 songs we performed at the Live Lounge on April 15th. You can find the entire show on my youtube channel!

Big Money shot + New Album

What do face paint, costumes, choreography, and music all have in common?

Yes! They are all part of Alexy & The Other Side’s new live show!

But of course if you were at the Live Lounge on April 15th, you already knew this! But in case you weren’t, let me fill you in a little…

The Other Side (Nathan Corr, Kira Montfort, James Deakin-Thomas) and I performed for the Live 88.5 Big Money Shot last night, and to say the very least, it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Ever since I discovered/fell in love with with Peter Gabriel and his music, I’ve longed to create a live show that could truly engage one’s emotions like he did. Creating an experience both incredibly musical as well as imaginative and theatrically immersive. This would be a way for us to connect with the crowd in such a symbiotic way that it seems almost infinite in the moment. I believe we were there last night, and for all of those who came out to support us, I thank you and thank you and thank you again.

For the first time, and with all of your help, we reached The Other Side. And it was magical.

However this is simply the beginning. I will be heading off to the big T.O to record my first full length album with the help of producer extraordinaire Ben Pelchat. With about half of the songs written and demoed, I have difficulty finding a word to describe the new sound. All I can say for now is that this is likely to be drastically different than my first EP, ”Fragments of Fiction”, incorporating new styles, genres and colors (hip hop anyone?), and I can’t wait to see what you all think of it.

If you would like a taste of what may be in store in the near future, simply put your name and email in the form at the top right of the page, and voila! Two new songs in your inbox!

I will also be posting some of the songs we performed at the Live Lounge in the next few days, so make sure to keep checking back!

Music Video #2

As I sit here writing under a blanket, I can see the first snow storm of the year make it’s way to my window. It is now 2011, and like many I am back in school, reflecting on the past years’ accomplishments, as well as on the goals to set and accomplish for this year, and decade to come.

With a new year comes new band members, and with this I am happy to say that Kira Montfort will be joining us on drums! I am very excited to have her join us, and we will be playing shows very soon, so keep checking back for show dates in AND out of Ottawa!

On January 21′st I will be returning to Montreal for a second round of filming with my cousin Yann. We will be shooting a video for Forgotten, the second single off my debut EP Fragments of Fiction.
I will also be posting cover videos for you all to enjoy, and giving out some free music very soon!

Please leave any comments of ideas for the music video! Any feedback is appreciated, and don’t forget that you can download a free copy of my first single Cold in the freebies section! I will be taking it down in the coming week, so make sure to get it while it’s there!

Music. Lives. Forever.

And then there was…

Snow, snow, and more snow.

It’s been a month since the last post, and I apologize.
Life seems to be rather keen on keeping me busy!

First things first.

Fragments of Fiction will be taken off of itunes/cdbaby and all other media sites. But don’t worry if you haven’t got a copy yet! It will be re-released under an independent label, making it available worldwide! More on that later!

The album is moving significantly well, I finished demoing drums, piano and vocals for ”Paper moon”. This is going to be a good one, I promise!
I will be entering Kensington Sound on May 9th in Toronto with Producer Ben Pelchat. With many musician guest appearances and collaborations, input from hit songwriters an incredibly versatile producer and of course myself, this is sure to be one crazy ride!

I also wanted to mention that Kaleigh Watt, the extremely talented singer which I am working with, recently got chosen for the back up vocals on one of KT Tundstall’s singles ”Glamour Puss” on her remix album! Congrats! I personally cannot wait to see the finished product!

I know that Christmas is coming, and to most, this means gifts!
I will be giving out more free tracks from the EP in the coming weeks, as well as additions to the website and more videos that I’m sure you guys will enjoy. So keep checking back!

And don’t forget to keep spreading the word on Cold’s Music Video!

Blog Update! (New songs, band members and more!)

Hey Everyone,

Tons of great stuff happening, but first I wanted to mention this great movie called ”The Age of Stupid”. It’s the story of what we will become, and where we are going as a species if we continue to destroy our world. Go check it out @ http://www.spannerfilms.net/ which also features other incredibly enlightening movies. I strongly urge you all to check it out!

As I’m already well into loosing my sanity over the writing of this next Record, I must admit it is coming along quite well. I’m well into the third new song, and I think when this is all finally complete, it just might blow your socks off. And by socks I mean shoes included (assuming you are wearing some).

I am also working on a project with a fantastic local singer (originally from Toronto however) Kaleigh Watts. I’m going to be producing her debut EP (due out mid-next year?) and I’m really excited to see what it becomes. We’ll be putting up some demo’s on her (to-be) myspace page when we have some, so keep an eye out!

On a different note.

It is my pleasure to announce a new member of the Alexy Music family! Elizabeth Foster has blessed us with the power of her 5 string violin! She’ll be playing with us in the future, so keep an eye out for show announcements!

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone who watched the music video, and helped spread the word so well as to get 500 plays in less than a week and a half! Keep spreading it, word of mouth is key! Lets get it up to 1000!
(You can see it in the ”media” section!)

More on all of that to come soon, and possibly a big announcement? Only time will tell ;) .
